Rhythms of Renaissance
for Abercrombie & Fitch’s “Stories of Empowerment” 2024 Black History Month Campaign
Black History Month is inspired by the remarkable resilience and creativity of African Americans, particularly during the Harlem Renaissance. Despite the shadows of racism, this era saw an explosion of Black artistic and cultural expression. My design focuses on the joy that black folks found in movement, specifically in dancing the Lindy Hop - a dance that symbolizes freedom, connection, and pure delight. The swirling patterns in the design are an ode to the expressiveness of jazz music, while the figures dancing represent the communal joy and the vibrant spirit of togetherness inherent in Black culture. This design also reflects a personal connection to my Nigerian roots, where dance is a significant part of our cultural expression. It's a celebration of life, an embodiment of the spontaneous "happy dances" we do when we just want to move and revel in our existence.
